what's in a name?

So fig & salt hey!! What's in a name people say?  Quite a bit actually because at the end of the day you want to pick a name that stands out and for me a name that says something about yourself. For me deciding on my business name was one of the biggest challenges! Many sleepless nights, many conversations with family and numerous texts to girlfriends for approval.. and in the end i got it!!

For years i had a particular name in the back of my head! I thought it was the perfect name until a couple of months ago it just did not seem right!! I remember looking over all my favourite blogs and websites and thought back to why i started stalking them and in hindsight they all  had a name that stood out!  These ones got me pondering about my own name and I began writing down all my favourite things whether it was in regards to food, fashion or life in general!!

I wanted my name to be meaningful, to convey something about myself, to be short and easy to spell and something that would tell a story and so Fig and Salt was born.

 why fig & salt?
Pretty simply.. Figs are one of my all time favourite fruits, delicious in savoury & sweet dishes! There is just something about Figs a delicious and sweet addition to the kitchen  And salt, well salt is one of the most common ingredients that I use in everyday cooking. Something about salt reminds me about life everyday. It can be the one ingredient that either makes or breaks a dish its as simple as that.

And that my friends is the story behind my name, a story that has many blank pages but is ready to be filled.  I like to look at my business name as sweet & sour, ying & yang and as a close friend always says to me 'the butter on my bread'

fig & salt.. new beginnings

So here it goes.. a new beginning a new season and a dream that is finally becoming a reality! So many of my friends have asked or told me over the last few months to start a blog on my new adventure and as i sit in my favourite chair looking out to the vast horizons of the Yarra Valley I am reminded of the journey that I have taken to get to where I am today!!

Food has always been such a passion of mine! There is nothing that gives me more pleasure than spending countless hours in the kitchen baking, cooking & preparing a feast, a meal or some homemade goodies.

Its not a chore for me its just something that I love to do! One of my favourite 'foodie' quotes is from George Calombaris "Food is family, Family is life & Life is everything" how poignant!!

So enjoy & please bare with me as i navigate my way through this new season of blogging & life!!
